Antihero Hits the Asheville DIY Fundraiser
11/03/2023
I I was beyond stoked to get back to Asheville for the Annual Foundation DIY Fundraiser. This year Raney, TNT, Grewer, Chris Cope and the 1-8 crew rolled out with hometown hero Gus Gordon. Even Morf showed up! Artist Dennis McNett, aka Wolfbat, set if off Friday night with an art show at Push Skate Shop. Saturday we got treated to some shredding with the Antiheros at the DIY, before ending the night with an interactive music and art show—nothing but good times in the mountains. Check it! —Matt Pendry

The next afternoon, people slowly rolled in to witness the carnage. I’m now realizing shoes on the powerline are kind of like a skatepark’s flag. Does that sound crazy?
The Asheville crew has been hard at work. Look at this thing!
More to come. Don’t forgot to donate!
You got a smartphone? Just scan and boom!
Some familiar faces from the past years. Whose kid is that flipping me off?!
Dylan and Emmit forgot about gravity and logistics. Good way to start it off, though
Kingston Babb (Jeremiah's son) came down from Atlanta to rip a back Smith through the crunchiest wave there
The original Babb carved out a feeble to fakie in the steep corner. A little father/son action, that’s the shit I do like! Keep an eye out for Kingston. The little dude grew up fast!
Michael Myers came through with some fancy footwork
Watch out, Raney’s coming through!
Gus Gordon into the skies, JAH feel?
No caption needed ever. Chris Cope, thanks for existing
Two NC legends. Malik goes backside. Check Gus’s face
Tony chopping it up with the locals
Tony tests out the new wall. Morf, think we could get that photo?
Watch out, Frank! Gus getting speed for the new corner
Yeah, Gus! This dude almost blew the photo
Kinser going full back Smith through the corner
Jared Lee with a stylish noseblunt
TNT stabbing a quick heela monster in there
Gus going backside on the big boy
ATL in the house! Kingston, Bobby Boyd and Jeremiah Babb
Raney planting to fakie. Think we could get that photo too, Morf?
TNT with a full-speed tailside shove
Looks like the food was good, too!
George and his pup posted, enjoying the stoke!
It takes a lot to make these things happen, so next time you see anyone from this crew, thank them!
Kinser warming up the bowl for the jam, 1-800-FRONT-SIDE! That might be too many digits, but you get it
I can’t recall this dude’s name, but this backside air is something we all remember
Gus and Kinser taking notes on how to properly crailslide
Rory’s new look had Gus hyped
Jared Lee, one of NC’s secret weapons, blazed through this nosegrind with ease
“Now that’s how you do it, ladies and gentlemen. Jared Lee, ya see. Frontside nosegrind, ya see. I need another beer, ya see!” Gus somehow got stuck in a 1930’s mobster from New York’s body the entire time he had the mic. What a guy!
“The way I see it, Jared Lee won, ya see!”
You killed it, Jared!
Frank making friends with the locals
I’m pretty sure this is the same kid that flipped me off. Came up!
All the kids were stoked!
Lu and company, great to see you guys
You looking at me?!
Raney looking out for the kids
Rodent took us all to some banging BBQ and here we are at the Orange Peel for some banging tunes
We were greeted by Dennis McNett, the man responsible for what you're about to see
These things are insane
Just wait until they get out on the floor
Let’s get to it
These guys are ready
Vicious Blade started it off and almost blew the roof off the building
Shit was heavy and heavenly!
The crowd was feeling it
And the stoke was high
Vicious Blade boards?! I gotta get one
No photos, please!
Next up, we have Ghoul
People were getting carried off left and right. Things got a little wild
Ghoul! Up close and personal
Heavy crowd
You might even find love here
This dude started spraying blue goo everywhere. I had to retreat, hence the blurry photo
The fans were down, though
Then all of the sudden, the beasts emerged
We all sat back in awe as these two forces battled to the death
Creatures marched through the crowd as people moshed or just stared in awe
These majestic figures were out of this world—fully handmade by Dennis McNett and his crew out of paper maché, cardboard, wood and other materials
Dennis making his way through the crowd, controlling one of his creatures
Caught Antihero’s main man Mack trying to escape the chaos
This dude was unable to avoid it. Just a little bump. Rock on
A bucket of blood and guts for your fans to feast on
That’s rock 'n' roll, baby
Can’t see? Me neither
I had to get out of there and get a beer. Malik greeted me by the bar
Raney, Kinser and Gus holding it down
Raney wasn't feeling it
Just kidding. Always good times with the 1-8 squad
Gus knocked over a few beers. At seven bucks a pop you better start slurping them off the bar
You think anyone saw that?!
Kinser knows Emmit is the truth. Kid’s growing fast
Kinser, TNT, Gus and Mac
The good bros! Thanks for coming out
Last up is Municipal Waste to close out the night
Fast and heavy!
People were getting tossed up everywhere
You had to be there
What a turnout! Thanks to everyone for coming out to support Foundation Asheville. Hope to see you all next year!
