Forever In Boardshorts
6/14/2012
While many skaters wouldn’t be caught dead skating in shorts, Hawaiian style does often require riding in your swim trunks. This became most apparent the day we went to the Keopuolani skatepark, where nearly everyone looked like they'd come straight from the beach. Drehobl and Ryan Spencer were the only dudes in our crew to fully embrace this local tradition, with the exception of one chilly night when they donned jeans. The problem with this manner of dress is that, with one bail to the butt or hips, the shorts—along with your underlying skin—just rip apart. Drehobl easily went through three pairs of swim trunks on this trip, but neither the destruction of his jams nor the resultant strawberries on the hips were enough of a deterrent for him to don traditional shorts.

Preston Harper was instantly nicknamed 'Happy' first day of the trip. Nothing sad about this power slide at Keopuolani Skatepark.

Local's Only, Bradda
It's always great to have a local show you the spots no matter where you are. We lucked out, because Foundation's Ryan Spencer is not only a totally awesome dude, but he also grew up on Maui. Ryan knew all the spots of course, but he also knew the better, less-crowded areas for surfing, snorkeling, and some really remote hiking. Our nature hike in the rain through the Lao Valley was nothing short of amazing.

Pretty sure Ryan has hit that hip a few times before.
A race to the water.
Some say the best surf spot on the island.

A definite highlight for Cranston.
