PHX Am 2015: Photo Recap

Cowtown’s 14th annual PHX am presented by Vans took place this weekend and with temperatures reaching 100 degrees the event was destined to be hot. Words and photos by Hammeke.

This weekend there was an additional tent city and the one pictured here is where you want to be.  Stay away from the other one.

By noon on Friday the course was already full with a healthy selection from over 200 of the best ams practicing in the heat.

JS LaPierre traveled from Montreal, Canada via Oceanside, California for an 11th place finish in the finals. Kickflip feeble.

Crailtap talent management Sam Smyth and Rick Howard.

Tyson Bowerbank with an impossible tail grab, in practice. He qualified first on Saturday so got the golden ticket straight to finals and ended up in 8th place overall.

Minor media

Dashawn Jordan taking advantage of the on site massage table.

Those massages must be good because Dashawn landed himself in 9th place overall and won the best trick with a massive Laser flip to flat.

Jamie Foy holding it down for the bigger guys. He’s only 18 but ripped all weekend and landed himself in second place overall.

The judges stand was a source of much needed shade for the competitors.

Chris Wimer made it to the semi-finals with tricks like this 180 fakie 5-0 and finished in 21st place overall.

When you’re as big as Blake Johnson you need big bags of ice for those knees. Blake finished in 20th place.

Cowtown’s Robbie Brockel is always a strong contender and this year was no egg-ception.

Circa made these Brockel heads to hype him up and it worked. He finished in 4th place.

Pyramid Country premiered their first full length edit, Exeter, at the afterparty on Saturday night.

Marisa Dal Santo was there and so was Dave Engerer who has an epic part in Exeter and a photo in the April issue of the mag.

Master Lensman Jackson Casey and the man with last part Kevin “Brother” Braun.

After Exeter, The Shrine was up next. Catch them on tour right now coming to a city near you along with Dirty Fences.

The crowds love them the promoters gotta either love or hate them, Trash Talk is one of those bands that most shows go till everyone is kicked out of the club.

Sunday morning hangover zone. Pat Rumney, Aaron Pearcy, Scotty Coplaman, and Jay Thorpe got you covered.

Jack Olson had this crook pop out into the bank every fuckin time.

Golden ticket winner Tyson Bowerbank was back now that it was the finals. He finished a strong 8th place overall

Jack Olson had a flawless run in the finals including this switch hurricane.
