RIP IN PEACE: Chris Casey

RIP CHRIS CASEY 01
2/10/1972 - 8/28/24

Silliness is a disappearing quality in this uber-serious world. This applies to skateboarding, too. Isn’t fun the reason we all got into this? Chris Casey was a true fan of fun and all things that go with it ––laughs, skateboarding, cracking a brew and lots of friends. In terms of skateboarding Chris has always been a natural ATV, starting in the 80’s boom around South County, MO and was a member of Team Onion. Chris moved around a bunch: Wichita, KS, Springfield, MO, Chicago, IL, making friends wherever he went, eventually landing in Los Angeles in the late 90’s where he spent a few years behind the counter at Hot Rod, heckling customers and making it a destination for locals and out of towners alike. Chris and the crew did 98 episodes of The Captain and Casey Show that ran from 2004-2010. Casey’s beloved buffoonery was now available to the masses through a basic cable package. More recently Chris moved back to St Louis to be closer to family and help his mom, connecting with olds friends and making new ones as he worked to build the scene. To see Casey’s reach has been nothing short of amazing, and for all the right reasons ––fun, thoughtfulness towards his friends and skateboarding. He’s the person we all want to be like and be around. The skate world lost a great one. ––Todd Schweinbold

Chris Casey. Fuckin’ Chris fuckin’ Casey. What the fuck, man?! You’re really gonna check out on us? Well physically, yes. But shit, most of us reading this haven’t seen you in years anyway! For the lucky ones who get a face-to-Case or a phone call every now and then, yes, we will miss that. However, you ain’t goin’ nowhere. You will be right beside us when we read a comic book, watch cartoons or an awesome, shitty movie. Right there at the cashier when making unnecessary (but justifiably hilarious) purchases at the junk store! When we see any concert, skating distance or not. Shred the hood at any and all hours. Karaoke? Yep, you are right there! We can still hear your conversation-stopping laugh, see your piercing blue eyes. Shit, sometimes I see your lanky ass playing with my kids, cracking them up! Your lanky ass is part of us. What a magical ass it is! You can pull anything out of it ––a joke, a Tail Devil, a suit, a random action figure, a joint, a drink, a birthday present. Nothing made this guy happier than giving people presents. Whether it was your birthday or not! You were the illest MC! We will miss seeing you, laughing with you, skating with you and just being around you. But you, Mr. Chris Casey, will always be with us. Everyone reading this please SHOW everyone you love, that you love them! We love you, Chris, but you already know that. ––Dimitry Elyashkevich
